Escolta - The Art Deco of Capitol Theater by migzmiguel08 Escolta - The Art Deco of Capitol Theater by migzmiguel08
Designed by National Artist Juan F. Nakpil. This structure was constructed after Nakpil finished his studies abroad. During his stay in Europe, a new style of architecture was introduced, and this was Art Deco architecture. His contribution to the Philippine skyline made a huge impact in design because of a new and unique style. The structure was inspired by a mixture of egyptian, babylonian and mayan architecture because of the use of such geometrical shapes. Of course back then cinemas were expensive, that is why during his time there were a lot of theaters constructed which showed on-stage acts. See those two Filipina statues? the one holding with a lyre symbolizes music, and another Filipina holding a mask symbolizes drama.
